The castle of San Damiano d'Asti was founded by Astesi.

Between 1537 and 1559, under the period of domination of the Marquisate of Monferrato, San Damiano was severely besieged by the French; among the most bloody episodes of the battles between the two rival factions is the assault on the castle, which remained in enemy hands from 1551 to 1559.

The castle was demolished by the Savoy troops in 1617.

The only remains of the old manor house are the base of one of the circular towers, later adapted - in the fifteenth century - to a bell tower of the parish church of Saints Cosma e Damiano.
